Trails in HBNU

By Lee Jin-hyun, Cub Reporter, Freshman of Chinese Language

The research by Princeton University showed that taking a walk helps activate neurons that relieve stress. In addition, according to research from Columbia University, walking for five minutes every half hour after sitting can lower blood pressure and blood sugar levels. University students preparing for assignments, exams, and employment often experience stressful situations. So, they are prone to stress-related illness, obesity, and lack of sleep. To solve these problems, taking a walk on campus is one of the most accessible activities that university students can do. Especially, taking a walk on campus does not require going to other places and does not need to buy exercise equipment compared to other types of exercise. For these reasons, I recommend the walking trails at HBNU that students can walk easily.

Sports Complex (Natural Grass Field)

This place can make you feel refreshed, and it gets a lot of sunlight because it is not crowded with buildings. You can have a picnic with your friends on the podium or on the lawn and take a walk after lunch. Also, as it is near the library, if you feel stressed while studying, you can go there and take a break. But, if it is sunny, don’t forget to bring your hat, sunglasses, or sun protection items. And be careful at night because there are not many people at that time.

Heyum Square

This square is suitable for busy students to walk because it is near the Student Union Building, the library, and many department buildings. If you go to the left side, you can see the path between the library and the N5 Building (Automation Building) next to the square. Along the path, you can see the small plaza between the N7 Building (Mechanical Engineering Building) and the N5 Building called Gaon Fountain Plaza, and the pathway leading to the N13 Building (Green-Energy Building). If you go to the right side, you can enjoy an easy walking route leading from the square to the Student Union Building.

Small Sports Field

This field is located between the southern gate and the ROTC Building. This place does not require much stamina. It is very close to the southern gate and you can take a break on the tiered seating covered with a roof on sunny days. At night, it is safe because there are many streetlights. In spring, you can see beautiful cherry blossom trees along the street next to the field from the S building to the dormitory. However, since people occasionally exercise on the field, the visitors should be careful to avoid collisions.

Walking is an essential activity for university students who experience busy and stressful days. Therefore, the Sports Complex is recommended for getting some sunlight, Heyum Square is recommended for busy students who want to take a break for a while, and the Small Sports Field is recommended for enjoying the blooming trees while walking near the dormitory in spring. Through this activity, I hope students take a break and regain their energy and enthusiasm for life.
