As companies increasingly prefer experienced workers and adopt rolling recruitment systems, many university students are struggle to prepare for employment. In particular, students without practical experience often struggle to meet the qualifications required by companies.
In response to these challenges, HBNU announced on May 26 that it had been selected as an host university for the “2026 Daejeon Co-op Youth New Leader Program” The project is supported by Daejeon Metropolitan City and managed by the Daejeon Business Agency. This year marks the ninth consecutive year that HBNU has participated in the program since 2018. The university was also recognized as an excellent operating institution in 2024 and 2025.
The program is designed to help local university students gain real work experience before entering the job market. Students selected for the program can participate in job training for up to four months and receive financial support of up to 2.15 million won per month based on a 40-hour workweek.
Unlike many short-term internship programs, the co-op project is closely connected to HBNU’s employment support system. Students can receive support with resumes writings, interviews, and job training before entering the workplace. Mentoring programs with current professionals are also provided so that students can better understand their future careers and work environments.
HBNU also plans to strengthen cooperation with local industries. The university hopes to expand partnerships with companies in Daejeon’s major strategic fields, including semiconductors, bio-health, defense, aerospace, quantum technology, and robotics. Through these experiences, students will gain more opportunities to build practical skills and adapt to real industrial settings.
The university expects the program to help students prepare more effectively for employment while also contributing to local youth employment and regional development.
