The theories learned in major courses are important, but students often face many unexpected challenges when they enter the workforce. This is because learning theory alone does not provide enough opportunities to experience team projects, design processes, or real-world problem-solving situations. In many cases, the design ability and teamwork skills required in actual industrial fields cannot be fully developed through classroom learning alone. Because of these limitations, a systematic institution that connects academic education with practical experience is needed to support students continuously. One such institution is the Engineering Education Innovation Center at HBNU. The center helps strengthen students’ practical abilities by offering various programs that allow them to gain experience closer to real engineering work.
Accreditation Program for Engineering Education
One of the representative programs of the Engineering Education Innovation Center is the Accreditation Program for Engineering Education. This system helps students develop not only knowledge in their major but also design ability, teamwork, and communication skills in a balanced way. Students do not simply attend classes and take exams. Instead, they also review and improve the educational process themselves, which helps them develop the abilities required in real workplaces. Through this program, students can systematically develop the basic skills needed in industry after graduation.
Along with the Accreditation Program for Engineering Education, the Engineering Education Innovation Center also operates various practice-focused programs. In recent industrial fields, the importance of collaboration across different majors has been emphasized more than ever. To reflect these needs, the center provides programs through the Creative Convergence Engineering Talent Development Project. Through various extracurricular activities such as capstone design and project-based programs, students gain experience in planning, designing, and solving problems on their own. The practical experience gained through this process has value beyond simply earning academic credits, because the learning to think independently and producing results becomes an important asset for students.
EPIC: Turning Ideas Into Reality
The EPIC (Engineering Plant of Innovation Cell) program focuses on developing students’ ideas into real outcomes. Students experience the entire process from generating ideas to creating projects and presenting their results. This helps them gain practical learning experience. Beyond simple practice, the program allows students to develop their engineering thinking through hands-on activities and direct participation in the entire process.
The Engineering Education Innovation Center at HBNU is a reliable educational institution that supports students’ growth beyond regular major courses. By actively participating in its various programs, students can grow into well-prepared engineering professionals. The diverse programs offered by the center are expected to provide meaningful opportunities.
