  • For Your Precious Future,Safety Education in LaboratoryBy Lee Seo-jin Reporter, Junior of Material Science and EngineeringHBNU provides safety education for 5,000 science research workers. This education is for professors, teaching assistants, research assistants, applicants, researchers, and university students. Also, it observes rules on the prevention of laboratory safety accidents, and the creation of laboratory safety environments.Based on existing faculty and college students, high risk laboratory workers must receive 6 hours of safety education, and low risk laboratory workers must receive 3 hours of safety education. Newly hired faculty members are required to receive 8 hours for the high risk laboratory, and 4 hours for the low risk laboratory. Newcomers, such as freshmen or transfer students, are not distinguished by high or low risk ratings, so they receive 2 hours of education. Risk separation depends on the question; Do you handle hazardous chemicals, toxic gases, LMOs, radioactive isotopes including radiation devices, during your studies or classes? If your answer is yes, you should have 6 hours of education. If your answer is no, you are in a low risk laboratory group. Therefore you only need to get 3 hours of education.HBNU operates a separate site (safety.hanbat.ac.kr). On that site, you can select your language, type of research, and your risk group. After that, you can take a lecture by selecting the subjects. Finally, should be implemented to confirm whether it has been completed properly. If your education is not completed, HBNU restricts access to all laboratories.Although it is a legally essential education, the completion rate as of 2020 Regular Laboratory Safety Education for Research Activity Workers is low, at 75.8 percent (3,850/5,081). Also when asked if they really take safety education seriously, most students would say no. When we search HBNU laboratory safety education in the Google search box, the related search term is How to skip Lab safety education. If you do not complete safety education properly because of the lackadaisical thought that it is annoying, and that there would not be an accident, you will not have the potential to handle accidents in the future. It is called a Lack of safety awareness, when someone can not recognize or get used to the dangers of safety accidents, and is unaware of potential risks. Lack of safety awareness in the laboratory is very dangerous because it can lead to big accidents. In February 2018, a graduate student, not wearing protective gear, was injured by broken glass fragments when an organic compound in a flask exploded during an experiment in the chemistry laboratory of KAIST. In addition in 2015, at Kangwon National University, two people were burned, due to abnormal reactions during waste fluid treatment in reagent bottles with damaged labels. Both of these two cases occurred because they did not comply with the basic safety rules. There are not only temporary accidents, but there are also long term accidents caused by not wearing safety equipment. Exposure to harmful chemicals can lead to physical injuries, such as adult leukemia.Every year, about a thousand people die on industrial sites. Unlike games, we dont haveorin our lives. The slightest mistake can lead us to lose precious people, as well as all our precious hopes and dreams.SkipEveryone, please always pay attention to safety and health. No matter how great the research is that we have done, we dont give the Nobel Prize to the dead.Dr & Dr parenting diary 209. Health - Naver WebtoonWe must be aware of the risk of laboratory safety accidents, aware of the basic safety rules of the laboratory, and wear tools such as safety guards. Cherish your future by ensuring your safety in the laboratory.

  • Lets Join the Smart Factory The Third Wave was published by the American futurist Alvin Toffler. It caused a huge social storm to predict a transformation from the industrial society to the information society. As Alvin Tobbler predicted, modern society is an information society based on computers and the internet. When the wave is over, the next wave comes. So, what is the fourth wave? The core of The Fourth Industrial Revolution that the fourth wave will evoke is automation. Companies are already installing the Internet of Things (IoT) in facilities and machines in their factories to collect and analyze data in real time. In addition, theyrapidly make prototype parts by using 3D printing technology, which xss-creates xss-objects by laying down successive xss-layers of materials. In preparation for that, HBNU provides an Industry 4.0 Edu Smart Factory-3D printing program, cooperating with the Korea National University of Transportation. This program lasts for 10 days in total. First, the Smart Factory program runs for 5 days in HBNU. After that, you can learn 3D printing technology for 3 days in KNUT, and compete with each team through Maker Campus Tone for 2 days.In the Smart Factory program, we try to make various robots, using the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics kit. After making an autonomous vehicle and a color sorter which automatically classifies and sorts colors, we assemble robot arms and carry out a mission of moving xss-objects.In the 3D printing program, we are educated on the theories and examples of 3D printing, and making basic sketch designs with a product design platform named Fusion 360. Using these programs, we can check the path and time it takes for sketched drawing to be xss-created as a printout through 3D printing. After these processes, 3D output practice is performed. In Makertone, we can xss-create and present a smart factory through the contents learned in this program and from the help of experts.robot arm3D printer outputMakertone - shape recognition cameraTo find out more about the Smart Factory-3D printing program, this is an interview with Kim Soo-bin, junior of Mechanical Engineering at HBNU, who won the Presidential Award.Q1. Why did you participate in the Smart Factory-3D Printing Education Program?A: I have always been interested in 3D modeling, so I wanted to learn more about this field. Also, I hoped to test my skills in this class during vacation.Q2. How did it help you develop and improve your skills?A: First, It helped to develop my creativity. Before participating in this program, I used to make models while looking at given drawings. In the Smart Factory program, I learned how to express these shapes in my mind by making them into creations. In addition, I also learned coding, so I have not only been able to develop shapes, but I have also found the ability to control their movements and actions.Q3. How did you feel during this program?A: Of course, individual abilities are important, but I felt that the bond between team members is also important. Personally, I think the biggest influence for our team to win the award is the good teamwork. The biggest feature of Maker Campus Tone is to realize ideas in a very short time. Good teamwork can save a lot of time.Q4. Is there anything you would like to say to the students who will participate in this program?A: It is very important to be diligent in class before participating in Maker Campus Tone. There are so many things you can learn, even if you dont win, so dont hesitate to participate! As in the interview above, there is a lot to learn from this program. In order to adapt to the upcoming Fourth Industrial Revolution, it is advantageous to acquire future technologies. Also, you can improve your interpersonal skills. Why dont you participate in the program?

  • Interesting Story about Plants in HBNUBy Byeon Seo-young Cub Reporter, Junior of Industrial Management EngineeringThere are a lot of plants around us. Do you know that plants in daily life have interesting background stories? If you know what kind of plants are on the campus of HBNU and what stories they have, then you can enjoy the campus even more than before. Lets look around for the special stories about usual flowers and trees.First is a small flower called Dak-ui-jang-pul (Commelina) that is located in most parts of HBNU. Its scientific name is Commelin, and the scientists Linnaeus named it in honor of three Dutch botanists. Linnaeus said, Commelina has flowers with three petals, two of which are easily visible, while the third is not so conspicuous. Therefore, its name comes from the two botanists named Commelin. The less visible petal represents the third botanist who died before accomplishing anything in botany. (Stearn p.100) In Korea, another story was passed down. Once upon a time, there were two strong men in a village. They always competed, but neither one of them was ever a successful winner. Finally, they dove under the water carrying a big rock, and had a competition to see who couldt stay the longest. Their wives stayed in front of the hens house all night to watch, but when the chickens started to cry in the morning, then the wives knew that their husbands had died. Eventually, the anxious wives also died of stress. Tthe blue flowers that later bloomed where they lay were called Dak-ui-jang-pul. The Dak-ui-jang-pul flower represents missing someone that you care about. The tree that blooms in front of the Office of International Affairs (S0) is named Daeng-gang-na-mu (Abeliagrandiflora). White and light pink flowers bloom for 6-8 months from spring to autumn. The flowers smell is very sweet. When its branches are bent, it makes a Daeng-gang sound. Thats why Daeng-gang-na-mu is called that. The tree that blooms light pink flowers is called the Kkot-daeng-gang-na-mu, and can be seen outside building S0. The name comes from the botanist, Dr. Clarke Abel. It indicates that the tree is a hybrid species through the combination used in its scientific name. If you walk in front of building S0, you can take a look at the flowers.Next, the name of the clover (Trifolium repens) comes from promise, luck, and peace. It can be seen not only behind the design hall, but also around us on the campus. Each of the 4 different Trifolium repens leaves has a different meaning. The first leaf has the meaning of hope, the second is faith, the third is love, and the fourth is luck. You may remember trying to find a four-leaf clover when you were young? All 4 of the leaves had their own meanings. The tale of the clover is related to Napoleon. Napoleon was being chased after losing the fight against Russia. During the retreat, Napoleon happened to see a four-leaf clover. Napoleon bowed down to pick it up. Then suddenly, a bullet passed over it. If Napoleon had not bowed his head, he would have died. People who heard this story believed that a four-leaf clover brought good luck.I have investigated the background stories of many plants in HBNU. They are common plants, but each of these small plants has its own meaning, and a story which makes it special. Our lives are the same. I am just one person living in this world, but I live my life with my own story. No matter how normal or irrelevant it may seem, I am still a special being. Why dont you look for these plants while walking through the HBNU campus? If you recognize the plant, then its story will become specialized, just like your own life story when you recognize yourself.

  • Why Dont You Make Foreign Friends and Improve Your English?By Kim Do-eun Cub Reporter, Sophomore of Public PolicyThe best way to improve English conversation skills is to be exposed to an environment where you have no choice but to speak English. Making foreign friends is very suitable for this. However, it is difficult to make friends abroad, due to the prolonged COVID-19. Despite this situation, more foreigners are staying in Korea than expected, and HBNU also has foreign students. The Office of International Affairs (OIA) operates a program that allows Korean students to interact with foreign students. It is an English Conversation Leaders Club (E.C.L.C.) program. This program is a student club activity, aimed at strengthening language skills and sharing culture between foreign and Korean students. One exchange student and 2-3 Korean students team up to engage in language and cultural exchange activities. Each semester, participants are selected by summing both their official language scores (30 percent), and their previous semester grades (70 percent). They receive activity subsidies and do club activities for at least two hours a week. In addition, if their attendance rate is more than 70 percent, they can receive 5 Units. These interviews are with the students who have already participated in the program.Lee Jae-in, HBNU Junior of Electronics Control EngineeringQ1. • Welcome to the HBNU VillageBy Lee Seo-jin Reporter, Junior of Material Science and EngineeringAs adults, many students who attend college leave their family homes. They move to dormitories, stay in lodgings, or live alone in studio apartments. So, where do the students of HBNU live? There are four main accommodations where students can live alone in studio apartments at HBNU: In front of the main gate, in front of the south gate, next to the dormitory, and behind Lotteria. I wanted to find out about each accommodation, so I have interviewed students who are living in each of those xss-location..In front of the main gate: This xss-location.is close to the engineering building. It is convenient because there are bus stops, restaurants, and general stores which are all located nearby.Q. How much is your rent bill? (monthly/deposit)350,000₩/2,000,000₩Q. Why did you start living alone? There was not enough room in the HBNU dormitory.Q. Why did you choose your studio apartment?Because my room was located on a high floor, and each space was separated by a door.Q. What is a bad thing about living near HBNU?The delivery food menu is restricted and the tips are expensive.Q. What is a good thing about living near HBNU?:This xss-location.is quiet. In front of the south gate: This xss-location.is near the Dept. of Building s commercial district, the area around HBNU is not very developed. Nevertheless, the monthly rent for studio apartments near CNU and HBHU are a similar price. I compared the monthly rents using Naver real estate. Near CNU, normal studio apartments have prices ranging from around 200,000 to 350,000 won. Some studio apartments that were sold near HBNU were a similar price to those near CNU, but HBNUs studio apartments were generally more expensive. There are many things to consider when comparing monthly rent costs, but it is not reasonable to pay similar prices compared to more commercial districts. This is something you should certainly think about when you are trying to live at HBNUs studio apartments.Living alone near HBNU has the definite advantage of reducing commuting time. In addition, as many new apartments have been built around here, there is a high possibility of development as the commercial area is growing. Living alone around HBNU has another unique advantage. There is Sutong-ri next to Gyeryongsan National Park, which has many good and healthy restaurants. You can hike as a hobby, and you can enjoy the fresh air to the fullest. There will be many students who are not independent because they have non-face-to-face classes due to COVID-19. After the pandemic, why do not you use this information to choose your own room?
